Dynamic Theming
Dynamic theming automatically generates and applies a system-wide color scheme based on your wallpaper. Introduced with Android 12's Material You, it affects icons, widgets, system UI, and supported apps.
Dynamic theming is the technology behind Material You's color-matching capability. When you set a wallpaper, the system extracts dominant and complementary colors, then generates a full palette of tonal variations used throughout the UI.
This palette applies to quick settings tiles, the notification shade, the lock screen clock, Google app widgets, and any third-party app that opts into dynamic color. The result is a phone that feels visually unified — everything subtly references your wallpaper's color story.
For icon customization, dynamic theming powers the monochrome icon feature where adaptive icons are rendered in a single tone from your palette. One4Studio's adaptive icon packs (Lena Adaptive, Caelus Adaptive, Vera Material You) provide thousands of icons that fully integrate with this system.
Tip: Dynamic theming works best on stock Android and Pixel devices. Samsung, OnePlus, and other manufacturers implement it with variations. Use a wallpaper with clear, distinct colors for the best palette generation.
