Icon Shape
Icon shape refers to the outline silhouette of app icons on your home screen — circle, squircle, rounded square, teardrop, or shapeless (no container). Different launchers and icon packs offer different shape options.
Icon shape is one of the most visually impactful choices in home screen customization. It determines whether your icons appear as circles (Pixel default), squircles (Samsung default), rounded squares, teardrops, or with no container shape at all (shapeless).
There are two levels where icon shape is controlled. First, the launcher can apply a mask shape to all icons uniformly. Second, the icon pack itself can include built-in shapes. When an icon pack has its own shapes (like Ares's squircles), it overrides the launcher mask for covered apps.
One4Studio offers both approaches: Ares uses squircle containers for a structured, uniform look. Vera, Lena, and Caelus are shapeless — icons float without a background container, which creates a lighter, more open feel. The best choice depends on your aesthetic preference and wallpaper.
Tip: When using shapeless icon packs, turn off the launcher's icon mask to avoid the system adding an unwanted background shape. In Nova Launcher: Settings > Look & Feel > Icon Style > Shape > Off.
